Frequently Asked Questions
-WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?-
You need gloves for our kickboxing classes. We provide trial gloves for you at your first class. We sell fingerless Harbinger gloves as an upgrade, which you can purchase at our location, or you can bring your own gloves. In additon, we recommend bringing a sweat towel; some prefer to also bring a mat.
-DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR A SPECIFIC START DATE?-
The start dates apply only to the 10 Week Challenge, not for our other kickboxing memberships. We begin new 10 Week Challenges regularly due to the demand we have received. If you would like to sign up for a different membership, you can come in at any time as they don't have specific start dates.
-DO I HAVE TO HAVE PREVIOUS KICKBOXING EXPERIENCE?-
No. We encourage everyone to take a CKO kickboxing class, whether you have taken kickboxing before or not. An orientation is given to everyone prior to the first class, which includes demonstration and practice of the punches and kicks needed during the class.
-ARE THERE ADVANCED AND BEGINNER CLASSES?-
The classes are not run at different levels but because everyone is working with their own heavy bag. You are able to go at your own pace. We encourage you to go slow in the beginning and then increase the intensity as you take more classes. Also, please keep in mind that all classes are co-ed.
-ARE THERE AGE RESTRICTIONS?-
Clifton starts at age 14. If someone under the age of 18 is interested, a parent/guardian must sign for him or her to take a trial class and/or sign up for a membership.
-AM I RESTRICTED TO A CERTAIN NUMBER OF CLASSES PER WEEK?-
Once you become a CKO member you can take an unlimited number of kickboxing classes throughout the duration of your membership.
-IF I JOIN THIS LOCATION, CAN I USE ALL LOCATIONS?-
We have different membership types (Silver, Gold, Platinum, Elite) that include certain locations and are categorized by cost. Silver members can only use Silver locations. Gold members can use both Silver locations and Gold locations. Platinum members (shown in white) can use all locations except Brooklyn (Carroll Gardens), which is an Elite location. Typically, the type of location dictates the type of membership. However, if you wish to purchase a higher grade membership, or upgrade your current one, we can take care of that for you at Clifton. This policy is subject to change as new locations are opened.
